Clare Belmont

Associate, Specialist Physiotherapist

Clare has specialised in neurological physiotherapy for over 20 years working in neurological posts at St George’s University Hospital, London; The Wellington Hospital, London; The Regional Rehabilitation Unit at Northwick Park Hospital and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol.

Most recently she spent 16 years as the Lead Physiotherapist at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in Bristol, a 52 bedded inpatient multidisciplinary unit treating NHS funded patients with complex orthopaedic and neurological disabilities, resulting from traumatic or acquired brain injuries and other non-degenerative neurological conditions. She now works as an independent practitioner.

Clare has specialist skills in neurological assessment and treatment, movement analysis, balance and falls, spasticity, pain and posture management, serial casting/splinting, orthotics, Functional Electrical Stimulation, hydrotherapy and behaviours that challenge. Her experience has given her a clear understanding of the interplay between cognitive and physical impairments and how this can affect physical outcomes. She also has extensive experience supporting families and carers through the rehab pathway and understands how difficult it can be for those supporting a loved one to adjust to the effects of potentially life changing injuries.

Nearing completion of a Masters in Advanced Professional Practice in Neurological Rehabilitation at the University of Plymouth, Clare is passionate about providing evidence-based and patient-centred rehabilitation. She is also an active member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN) Research Working Group, aimed at providing education in research skills to the ACPIN membership.
