Dr. Felicity Hughes

Dr Felicity Hughes is a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychololgy with over 15 years of service in the NHS, specialising in neurorehabilitation. Based in Bournemouth she covers our services along the South Coast including Southampton.

After gaining her Doctorate from the University of Surrey in 2008, Felicity has worked in both community mental health teams, where she worked with individuals facing complex and enduring mental health difficulties, and neurological services. She now holds a senior position in NHS Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Adult Neuropsychology services in Dorset, where she is dedicated to supporting individuals recovering from neurological injury and illness in the community.

Felicity’s expertise lies in comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and helping individuals adjust to life after traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and other neurological conditions, offering tailored psychological support throughout their rehabilitation journey. She recognises the intricate interplay between the mind and body in recovery, emphasising a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to understand and address the unique challenges faced by each individual.

The cornerstone of Felicity’s therapeutic approach is her use of cognitive behavioural (CBT) third-wave therapies, including Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). Felicity believes in the transformative power of compassion to aid recovery and adjustment, foster resilience and reduce self-criticism. Felicity is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic approach for addressing trauma.

In addition to her clinical practice, Felicity is committed to advancing the field of neurorehabilitation through education and mentorship. She supervises both qualified and trainee clinical psychologists and provides specialised training for multidisciplinary teams. Her leadership and dedication to professional development reflect her deep commitment to fostering the next generation of psychologists and ensuring high-quality care for individuals in neurorehabilitation.

Felicity has completed advanced professional training in Clinical Neuropsychology and is completing the requirements for entry onto the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. She is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
