Dr. Fiona Gill

Clinical Psychologist

Exeter and Devon

Fiona’s career has been shaped by her belief that psychological wellbeing is fundamental to quality of life, and her values in the importance of equitable access to high-quality care. Throughout her career, she has focused on supporting people with cognitive difficulties who may find it difficult to express their experiences or advocate their needs.

Fiona has worked across a range of NHS Community Services, predominantly with adults with Learning Disabilities, including as Psychology Lead in her locality. She is highly experienced in delivering clinical assessments including cognitive assessments, mental capacity assessments—both general and for the Court of Protection—and functional assessments of behaviours that may challenge others.

Alongside her assessment work, Fiona is passionate about making psychological therapy accessible and meaningful for everyone. Incorporating goal based neurorehabilitation she uses an integrative therapeutic approach informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and trauma-informed models. She is committed to offering people the time they need to share their stories, working at a pace and in a format that respects individual needs and sensitivities. Collaboration and compassion are central to her practice. Where helpful, she incorporates easy-read materials, adapted pacing and environmental adjustments to support literacy, communication, sensory or attention-related needs.

Fiona also recognises the importance of supporting those who provide care. She has extensive experience working with family members, paid carers, employers and professionals across health and social care, to ensure the needs of the wider support system are understood and addressed.
