Mel Terry

Associate, Specialist Occupational Therapist

Mel is a passionate and successful Occupational Therapist, maintaining integrity in all her interactions with clients, carers, other professionals, and students.

Mel has experienced a varied career with both physical and mental health long term conditions since qualifying in 2000 from St Loyes, Exeter, demonstrating highly specialised transferable skills across the lifespan within different clinical settings.

Mel specialised for 10 years with adults and children experiencing chronic fatigue and CFS/ME using a biopsychosocial/occupational approach, utilising both standardised assessments (eg Model Of Human Occupation) and bespoke non standardised assessments. Through the therapeutic use of self, Mel easily develops strong collaborative relationships with clients, advocating their needs and ensuring the development of person-centred, goal-oriented treatment plans.

Mel has expertise in Vocational Rehabilitation, supported by her MSc in Advanced Professional Practice: Work and Well Being. This includes career re-direction assessments, transferable skills analysis, graded returns to work and reasonable adjustment recommendation under the Equality Act 2010. Mel holds a strong belief in work as a meaningful occupation, despite the barriers a person may be experiencing, and with creative innovative thinking empowers the individual to optimise their productivity.

Mel is a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, as well as their Specialist Section for Independent Practitioners. Continuing Professional Development underpins her practice, in line with her passion for educating others, including the organisation of local conferences and student education.
